There are many chronic toxicity in brominated flame retardants

1. Developmental toxicity. Studies have shown that due to the low ability of young animals to excrete polybrominated diphenyl ethers, larval PBDEs are too high to cause tissue (including brain) damage. Exposure of PBDEs to fetuses and infants before and after birth can cause persistent behavioral changes. After continuous administration of polybrominated diphenyl ether to pregnant rats, fetal mouse hindlimb malformations can be detected.

2. Interference with endocrine function. The study also found that polybrominated diphenyl ethers can disrupt the thyroid system of mammals during adulthood and development, and disrupt T4 metabolism.

3. Reproductive toxicity. Low doses of polybrominated biphenyl ether reduced the number of spermatozoa and spermatogonia in male mice.

4. May cause cancer. Rats were exposed to 1200-2500 mg/kg for 20 consecutive weeks. The incidence of adenomas in the liver and pancreas increased.
