On August 30th, international oil prices rose and New York crude oil rose 1.87%

On August 30, international oil prices rose. At the close, the New York Mercantile Exchange's light crude oil price for delivery in October rose by $1.63 to close at $88.90 a barrel, or 1.87%.

The Federal Reserve Board released the minutes of the August 9 monetary policy meeting that day, showing that the Fed had discussed various tools at the last meeting in order to stimulate the U.S. economy. The US consumer confidence index in August fell to 44.5, the lowest since April 2009. However, the Case-Schilar home price index rose by 1.1% in June, better than market expectations. The new tropical storm Katia in the Atlantic is expected to become a hurricane in the next two days. Investors worry that the hurricane may affect the Gulf oil production.
