According to the report of the Physicist Organization Network on April 23 (Beijing time), CNRS material scientists have developed highly conductive plastic wires that are only a few nanometers thick and are used to produce next-generation IT mini mobile devices and computers. And solar equipment offers possibilities. The results of the relevant research are published in the latest issue of Nature-Chemical.
Nano-plastics are composite materials in which inorganic nano-particles are uniformly dispersed in a plastic matrix resin in nanometer size, and are also referred to as polymer-based nano-composites. Due to their small size and close proximity to each other, nanoparticles have unique quantum size effects, surface effects, interface effects, volume effects, macroscopic tunneling effects, small size effects, and superplasticity. Due to its unique physical and mechanical properties, such as high strength, high heat resistance, and smaller specific gravity, nanoplastics have become one of the most advanced products in the development of composite materials.
The researchers said that compared to carbon nanotubes, the fibers are only a few billionths of a meter wide and they are lightweight, flexible, easy to handle, and inexpensive. This kind of wire is a derivative product of man-made molecules, that is, triarylamines that have been used in photocopiers for decades.
The researchers surprisingly discovered through the chemical modification of triarylamine synthesis molecules that, under light and in solution, new molecules spontaneously undergo ordered assembly to form microfibers. Further, researchers contacted molecules with electronic microcircuits to study the electrical properties of the nanofibers.
In the bench test experiment, nanofibers form a bridge between two electrodes with a spacing of 100 nanometers. The results show that this nanofiber has both the mildness and flexibility of the plastic and the electrical conductivity similar to copper.
The National Center for Scientific Research said in a press release that researchers are now hoping to fully demonstrate the use of this fiber in microelectronic devices in industrial fields such as flexible screens, solar cells, transistors, and printed nanocircuits. (Reporter Hualing)
