Carbon nano-coating can reduce transmission loss by 40%

The Moscow Institute of Engineering Physics of the Russian National Nuclear Research University and Kazakhstan and American researchers have found a unique method: to reduce the loss of electrical energy on transmission lines by spraying special nanomaterials with carbon nanoparticles on transmission lines. Related research results were published in the Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics.

Researchers believe that the current main power loss of transmission lines is related to "corona discharge". "Corona discharge" refers to the independent discharge of electrodes with extremely large surface curvature in the air with extremely uneven and strong fields (mainly in humid weather). Electricity losses are estimated to be as high as $ 3 billion annually. This problem has been known since the day the transmission line was invented, but it has not been completely solved so far.

Znetula Insepov, a professor at the Moscow Institute of Engineering Physics at the Russian National Nuclear Research University, said: "We have successfully reduced the loss of corona discharge by 20% -40 by spraying special nanomaterials with carbon nanoparticles on the transmission lines %about."

Relevant experts pointed out that this achievement has provided great economic benefits to existing high-voltage transmission lines with a service period of 20-40 years. There is no need to replace the existing high-voltage transmission lines with new high-voltage transmission lines, and only spray special nanomaterials. It can reduce the transmission loss by 40%.

The researchers also plan to expand the scale of the research and introduce the results into existing power transmission lines and transmission line cable manufacturers.
