At the upcoming CES show this month, BMW will bring its latest research results in lighting technology. According to reports, the German manufacturer will demonstrate the Organic Light concept based on OLED technology and the smart version of the laser headlamp system.
As we all know, OLED is a branch of LED. Its light source is an organic film of hydrocarbon chain material, rather than a semiconductor with heavy metals. This design results in a more even light distribution and is also very energy-efficient. However, due to the lack of brightness, most of the existing OLEDs cannot replace the LED as headlights and brake lights of automobiles, so they are currently mainly used as taillights.
BMW seems very interested in OLED technology. Last year, they demonstrated the concept of Vision Future Luxury, and at the CES show this month, they will also bring more research and development results.
The laser headlights are the first technology to be launched on the i8 hybrid sports car, which achieves a maximum range of 600 meters. At this year's CES, BMW will demonstrate the combination of this technology with cameras, sensors and driver assistance functions. This is the so-called "smart laser headlamp system."
