RUSAL recently announced that the company can currently produce primary aluminum with the lowest carbon emissions in the global aluminum industry.
According to the En+ Group, the parent company of Rusal, the KrAZ aluminum plant of Rusal currently uses cutting-edge inert anode electrolytic cell production technology, which makes the carbon dioxide emissions of 99% pure aluminum less than 0.01 tons.
Lord Barker of Battle, Executive Chairman of En+, stated that the achievement of ultra-low carbon aluminum is part of Rusal's efforts to achieve net zero carbon emissions. At present, the output of this new type of low-carbon aluminum by Rusal is about 1 ton per day and the current is 140,000 amperes.
Lord Barker said: "At the beginning of the year, we announced a carbon reduction target that exceeded the industry standard, that is, to achieve at least 35% carbon reduction by 2030 and achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050. Today, I am proud to announce that the company is in An important step has been taken on this journey, and this is also a major breakthrough in the industry."
He said: "This is a revolutionary technology. The inert anode replaces the standard carbon anode with inert non-consumable materials (ceramics or alloys), thereby greatly reducing carbon emissions during the smelting process. It is comparable to the average emissions of the entire industry. Compared with the volume, the carbon footprint of metallic aluminum produced with inert anodes has been reduced by 85%."
At the same time, Lord Barker also introduced another breakthrough advantage of the aluminum smelting process, which is the simultaneous release of oxygen during the aluminum production process-the oxygen produced by an inert anode electrolysis cell can be equal to the volume of oxygen released by 70 hectares of forest.
