Rio Tinto: The output of iron ore exceeds 240 million tons in 2011

Rio Tinto PLC said on Tuesday (June 7) that it is expected that iron ore production will exceed 240 million tons in 2011. At the same time, Rio Tinto further pushes plateau steel production to meet the expected substantial growth in the next decade. Demand.

Rio Tinto produced 239 million tons of iron ore in 2010, but difficulties occurred in the first quarter of 2011. This front wind hit Australia's northwestern coast and the iron ore-rich Pilbara region.

Sam Walsh, chief executive of Rio Tinto's iron ore division, said that Rio Tinto's operating capacity has increased to 225 million tons per year this year, after Rio Tinto resolved its bottleneck in Dampier, Western Australia. In order to achieve an annual production of 283 million tons in the Pilbara region, most of the components have been approved and related work is ongoing.

Sam Walsh also said that progress has been made on plans to increase production in the Pilbara region to 333 million tons/year by mid-2015, and that earlier research is underway to achieve the 433 million tons output target. Rio Tinto's global iron ore business output potential can exceed 650 million tons.
