Power generation can be achieved by stepping on the floor, and the "power generation floor" displayed at the Japan Pavilion at the Shanghai World Expo will appear on the Nanjing Commercial Pedestrian Street, the first commercial street in China. On May 16, the opening ceremony of the 2011 Shanghai Science and Technology Festival Huangpu District was held at the Bailian World Trade Plaza, and the “Generation Flooring” science project was officially launched. From now on, the "power generation floor" laid on the square will become a permanent project for citizens to experience technology.

With the rhythm of trampling, scientists and civic workers will experience the surprise brought about by the “power generation floor”. One citizen said with excitement that in 2010 the Japanese Pavilion had seen the magic of the “power generation floor” and did not expect to go so far as to try it at home. Some parents brought in children, and some even played "jumping houses" on the floor. The organizers of the event said that it is precisely through the application demonstration of this intuitive scientific research achievement that the scientific concept of low-carbon and environmental protection will be disseminated to the public.

According to reports, this “power generation floor” was developed by the Shanghai Institute of Ceramics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. It consists of 24 small floors and has an area of ​​2.1 square meters. The scientific principle adopted is the piezoelectric effect: mechanical deformation using piezoelectric materials. After being able to produce the characteristics of electric field changes, the mechanical energy generated by people walking, stamping, jumping, etc. is directly converted into electric energy. On the sphere, there are a total of 432 LED lights, which can be lit up after receiving power, and the number of bright lights depends on the energy that the people step on and jump.

Luo Haolu, Shanghai Institute of Ceramics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, said that this “power generation floor” is the first in China. Its principle of power generation is the same as that of the piezoelectric floor displayed at the Japan Pavilion at the Shanghai World Expo, but the material structure is different. “The heavier the people are, the bigger the power generation is, and the harder the jump is. The maximum power generation of a person can reach 1 watt.” It is learned that the “power generation floor” will become more and more widely used in many high-tech fields such as industry, environment, transportation, and energy. application.

The “Power Generation Flooring” science popularization project kicked off the “Technology Tour”.
